UGC to Reward the Researchers with PhD Excellence Citation: Following are the Guidelines

Bhubaneswar: UGC announces PhD Excellence Citation for PhD research scholars under NEP 2020 to improve quality education in the field of research by awarding the excellent scholars every year. Through this initiative there will be encouragement and promotion of high quality research in the top educational institutions.

The universities are directed to select their top scholars and researchers each year. Those scholars who will be eligible as per the NEP set criteria as the winners in different streams of research will be rewarded with the honour of Excellence Citation.

The action is aimed to take India to become a knowledge superpower. The University Grants Commission has introduced this new way of identifying the most fertile brains of our country through felicitating the top most researchers in various fields.

Government will open an online portal for the shortlisted eligible research scholars, and notified the universities and institutions to select the scholars as per the procedures mentioned in the guidelines to nominate them in the portal. The portal will open on January 1, 2025.

Research done by UGC from 2011-18, states most number of students opt for PhD research and degrees. The overall Ph.D. admissions has raised up to 10 percent annually during the period.

Coverage and Eligibility

Theses which will be nominated for the citation are from the streams like Sciences (including Agricultural Sciences, Medical Sciences), Engineering & Technology, Social Sciences (including Education & Humanities), Indian Languages, and Commerce & Management.

Research Scholars who have successfully defended their theses in Indian Universities, such as State Universities, Central Universities, Private Universities, and Deemed to be Universities are eligible to apply.

UGC will award ten Ph.D. Excellence Citations,  two citations from each discipline.

Eligibility Criteria for Universities:

Universities that have been recognized under 2(f) of UGC Act, and have been accredited by NAAC are eligible to participate in the Ph.D. Excellence Citation.
