18th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas convention in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: The 18th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) Convention is going on in Bhubaneswar and has commenced from January 8, 2025 will be continued till 10 January 2025. This convention is  celebrated to reward and recognize the invaluable contributions of Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) and the Indian diaspora world wide in the progress and development of the country.

The PBD Convention continues to strengthen the bond between India and its global diaspora, celebrating their contributions while paving the way for deeper engagement and collaboration.

The theme for the current year PBD is, ‘Diaspora’s Contribution to a Viksit Bharat’, which focuses the essential role of the diaspora in constructing a progressed and prosperous India.

Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) is celebrated once in every two years, and it’s primary goal is to  bridge the gap between the overseas Indian community and the Government of India.

It stimulates cultural and historical connection by collaborating the return of Mahatma Gandhi to India from South Africa on January 9, 1915. In the commemoration of Mahatma Gandhi ‘s return this convention is marked as a pivotal in the freedom struggle and movements of India’ s history.

The PBD Convention was first held in 2003. Since the year 2015, the Ministry of External Affairs has been organising it biennially by collaborating with policymakers, experts, and key stakeholders to engage with the Indian diaspora.

This is a great platform for discussions on topics concerning overseas Indians provided with opportunities for investment, partnerships, and collaborations that contribute to India’s growth.

Recent editions have been co-hosted with state governments, enabling states to showcase their strengths and attract diaspora-driven investments and technologies.
