The major reason behind this state at present is the loss of the party in two prominent states that are Haryana and Maharashtra. They have totally squandered the opportunity to win the elections in both these states. Haryana was forecast to be won by the Congress and in Maharashtra it is the third consecutive defeat of the Congress in the assembly elections.
Over confidence of the Congress party, sidelining Dalit leader Kumari Selja and Dalit voters in Haryana and choosing wrong people for handling and distributing tickets are the primary factors for the loss of the Congress. The core voters of the Congress party have been Muslims and Dalits through out from the inception. Ignoring and sidelining the Dalits was never a good idea on Congress party.
The execution, campaigns are more aggressive from the BJP side as compared to the Congress. The BJP made more rebels sit down than the Congress, as the people who were deputed there by the Congress party were more inclined to self interest rather than the welfare of the party.
In the Congress party nobody including the party general secretary and the organization are ready to take the brunt of the failures. The Gandhi family and particularly Rahul Gandhi has to take a call when it comes to the incompetence of the party performance time and again.
In Haryana, there is another factor that the Jatts were getting prominence and the others were getting polarized. So the OBC and Dalit votes were split. The dearth of campaigns, wrong choices of logos used in the elections for Maharashtra, and Haryana. The Congress could not achieve the spot due to its underperformance and less effort in Jammu and Kashmir elections, as stated by Omar Abdullah himself.
The prime minister’s statement, ‘ Ek hain toh Safe hain ‘ did the magic for the BJP in Maharashtra assembly elections irrespective of all the polarization of the party and their leaders.
The elections in India has become about one man, one statement and organizational in nature. The narrative gets sold out to the voters and translate it into winning or losing.
