Onion Price Shoots Up to 70 per kg in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: The price of onions has touched Rs 70 per kg. The government of Odisha has asked the National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India Limited (NAFED) to sell onions by 35 per kg in the market of Odisha State.

The base price of the vegetable is Rs 45 per kg in Nasik , Maharashtra , the place where it is originally being procured, expressed by the State Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister K C Patra. Reportedly, Odisha depends for onions on Maharastra, Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh.

Onion is the vegetable that is not produced in Odisha so the state has to buy it from the other states. The price of both onion and garlic is high is the states these are being cultivated, hence the price rise occurs here as well.

The untimely rain in the month of September has hit the Kharif crops in many regions. The onions coming from Nasik are available in Rs 70 per kg whereas the ones that are from Kurnool are being sold at the cost of 40-45 rupees per kg.

Current market price of the garlics are also very high as Rs 400 per kg.

Hopefully the price might come to control soon for the relief of the people.
