During the promotional events and interviews the lead actor of the film Vikrant Messey has been putting across the views that the movie is made on. It is reported that the newness of this film is it gives a different perspective to such a extremely sensitive subject which has been discussed, debated, reviewed, filmed on etc from all across the globe. The perspective the film talks about the role of the media the then when this heinous incident took place. Whether the media which is the fourth pillar of our democratic nation performed it’s responsibility in a fair, and unbiased manner.
There is a whole generation which is ignorant about the genesis of the Godhra incident. The common people, even after 22 years are unaware of the real facts about the matter. The has always been fabricated the story. Nobody knows how the fire broke into the train. The innocent people who were burnt alive inside the train are still remained as mere statistics. They were never talked about or discussed.
When there is such a crisis in the country everybody takes advantage of it to garner certain benefits. Starting from the media houses, political parties, leaders etc but those people who died were left as just numbers, statistics to show in political debates, written in write ups. Nobody tried to find out their real identities. They were never talked about, discussed or mentioned as individuals.
There is a book written by P. Sainath, ‘Everybody Loves a Good Draught ‘ . During each and every crisis situation the bystanders, business organizations, media, people, politicians, and so on take the opportunity to find advantages out of it. Likewise, the incident occurred in Godhra, Sabarmati express train burning gave opportunity to a lot of such people but at the cost of fabricating, hiding and diverting the reality of the incident. Only one part of the incident is highlighted, the other part is totally suppressed.
The film highlights the fake narratives propagated by the elite sections of journalism, and it has been brushed under the carpet since long 22 years.
Though the subject of the film is highly sensitive and controversial, the present generation should watch this film to understand the turning point in the socio- political fabric of our country from there on.
