Unmukt Foundation Trains Children to Make Organic Colours for Holi Celebration

Bhubaneswar: Holi is the festival of colours. The shades of colours are visible everywhere, from floors to walls, from hands to the clothes. The naturally made organic colours are very much in use and demand. These organic colours are seen being used and made at the Saraswati Sisu Vidyamandir in Khandagiri, Bhubaneswar. In this school the students are given training for making organic colours.

The purpose is to bring a smile to every one’s face by playing Holi with organic colours rather than chemical colours. Unmukta Foundation has taken this creative initiative for engaging the small minds in such innovative creation. A Holi workshop named ‘Abira’ has been created for creating these colours by the students and educating them on it.

This workshop was organised for three days where there were training programs and teachings given for making these colours. The students were trained in making natural colours. The main purpose of this program is to educate the children on preparing natural organic colours and encourage other children to play Holi with natural colours. This workshop is designed mainly for providing livelihood to the neglected sections in society. About 300 people were given training within three days. As per the request from the school authorities these workshops are organised in other government as well as private schools in the state.

The colour is prepared from the natural materials like Maida, corn flour, beetroot powder, turmeric, leaf powder, palak leaves, etc and to add more vibrant shades they use food colours as well. The process and ingredients are purely organic. This initiative is to keep the Holi celebration fun, vibrant and joyous simultaneously maintaining a safe and sustainable environment.
