Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has launched the Odisha Yatri Safety App, described as India’s first state-owned safety application aimed at strengthening security and emergency support in urban mobility.
The app has been designed to provide passengers with quick access to emergency assistance while travelling. One of its key features is the ‘Shake & Alert’ function, which allows users to discreetly activate an SOS alert in an emergency.
The application also offers a one-click SOS facility to contact emergency services and alert designated contacts. Users can share their live location, access emergency assistance quickly and record audio during emergencies, providing additional support when immediate help is required.
The initiative is aimed at creating a secure, reliable and inclusive mobility experience, with particular emphasis on the safety and convenience of women, senior citizens and other vulnerable passengers.
The Odisha government said the app is intended to strengthen passenger confidence in urban transport by combining mobility services with technology-driven safety mechanisms.
The launch marks another step towards integrating digital technology with public transport and emergency response systems in Odisha, with the broader objective of making urban mobility safer and more accessible for all.
