Odisha Steps Up Efforts to Promote Nutrient-Rich, Biofortified Rice Varieties

Bhubaneswar: Odisha is exploring new market opportunities for its nutrient-rich and biofortified rice varieties, with the state government focusing on stronger market linkages for farmers and Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs).

Odisha Deputy Chief Minister and Agriculture Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo said representatives from Iran and other parts of India participated in discussions on promoting different rice varieties produced in the state.

He said several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) were signed to explore ways to market Odisha’s rice varieties and create better market access for farmers and FPOs.

According to Singh Deo, the initiative is aimed at connecting farmers with wider markets and improving opportunities for value realisation from their produce.

The Agriculture Department is pursuing the initiative as part of the state’s broader objective of doubling farmers’ income, with emphasis on improved market linkages and promotion of value-added agricultural products.
