Bhubaneswar: 150 police men were sent to the Isha Foundation on 2 October in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu by the Tamilnadu government to search the Ashram on the basis of a man complaining about his two daughters are kept in the Ashram forcefully. The raids were carried out post the man filed a petition in the Madras High Court alleging his daughters were being held there illegally.
The supreme court has halted the police action on 4 October stating the army or police cannot enter inside an ashram. The chief justice of India, D.Y. Chandrachud took over the case by saying, ” Two girls said that they were staying at the Ashram voluntarily. They are free to move around outside too and one of the girls has participated in a marathon of 10 kms. abroad . This is an issue of religious freedom. It is very urgent and serious”.
Sadhguru, who runs the Isha Foundation and Ashram in Coimbatore has been in the eye of a storm over the last few days. Sadhguru is very widely revered and lakhs of followers. The chief justice of India says, the High court cannot start such enquiries on oral assertion.
After the vindication for sadhguru the BJP questions the ruling party of Tamil Nadu about why the Tamilnadu police promptly sent 150 police men to raid the Ashram. It has alleged that the congress/ DMK government carries a sanatan samapt agenda or sanatan phobia. So they have vindictively targeted the spiritual guru.
