Bhubaneswar: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday inaugurated India’s first National IED Data Management System (NIDMS), marking a major milestone in strengthening the country’s counter-IED capabilities and overall internal security framework.
Developed by the National Security Guard (NSG), the NIDMS is a secure, national-level digital platform designed to enable the systematic collection, collation, analysis and dissemination of data related to Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) across the country.
Officials said the platform will serve as a centralised repository of IED-related information, including incident patterns, device components, triggering mechanisms and trends, thereby enhancing intelligence-sharing and operational coordination among security agencies. The system is expected to significantly improve preventive capabilities, investigation efficiency and response preparedness in dealing with IED threats.
Inaugurating the platform, the Home Minister underscored the growing challenges posed by IEDs in internal security scenarios and highlighted the importance of technology-driven solutions in safeguarding lives and infrastructure. The launch of NIDMS reflects India’s focus on modernising its security architecture and adopting data-led approaches to counter emerging threats.
The initiative is expected to strengthen inter-agency cooperation, support training and research, and bolster the country’s capacity to pre-empt and neutralise IED-related risks, contributing to a safer and more secure internal environment.
