Virat Kohli Surpasses Sangakkara to Become Second-Highest Run-Scorer in Men’s International Cricket

Bhubaneswar: Indian batting icon Virat Kohli etched his name deeper into cricketing history by surpassing former Sri Lanka great Kumar Sangakkara to claim the second position in the all-time men’s international run-scoring charts, moving closer to the legendary Sachin Tendulkar.

Kohli achieved the milestone during a composed and authoritative knock of 93, continuing his remarkable run of form in One Day Internationals. The innings, studded with eight boundaries and a towering six, underlined his control, timing and hunger for runs at the highest level.

With this effort, Kohli now stands second on the elite list of international run-getters, trailing only Sachin Tendulkar, who remains firmly at the top. The achievement further cements Kohli’s stature as one of the greatest batters of the modern era.

Notably, the innings marked Kohli’s fifth consecutive fifty-plus score, a testament to his consistency and resurgence in ODIs. Even after India lost the wicket of Shubman Gill, Kohli anchored the innings with characteristic calm, ensuring stability while keeping the scoring rate intact.

Gill, who has shared several productive partnerships with Kohli, was full of praise for the senior batter, acknowledging his experience, work ethic and ability to deliver under pressure.

As Kohli continues to scale historic milestones, his sustained excellence reinforces his enduring impact on international cricket and keeps alive the prospect of further records falling in the months ahead.
