Bhubaneswar: Government sources have said that India remains in a comfortable position regarding energy security despite global uncertainties affecting oil and gas markets.
Officials stated that the country currently holds adequate energy stocks, which are being replenished daily to ensure uninterrupted supply. They emphasised that there is no shortage of LPG or LNG, adding that global crude oil availability remains sufficient.
India is also actively diversifying its supply network. According to sources, Australia and Canada have offered to supply gas to India, while new energy contracts have recently been signed with the United Arab Emirates and the United States.
Currently, India imports around 195 MMSCMD (million metric standard cubic metres per day) of natural gas. Of this, about 60 MMSCMD is supplied by Qatar, prompting the government to explore additional markets to diversify sourcing and strengthen supply resilience.
Officials said the government is in discussions with major oil producers and global traders to secure supplies of crude oil and LPG. India is also coordinating with international organisations such as the International Energy Agency and the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries to monitor the global energy situation.
In addition, India is holding talks with the United States regarding insurance coverage for ships carrying energy cargo, a key concern during periods of geopolitical tension.
Sources added that the government is reviewing the energy situation twice daily to ensure preparedness and maintain stable supplies for the country.
