Bhubaneswar: Amid a commercial LPG shortage linked to the ongoing West Asia crisis, technology major Infosys has announced temporary changes to food services across its campuses.
In a communication to employees, the company said all food courts will operate with a limited menu until the supply situation improves. Staff members have also been advised to bring meals from home and avoid organising campus events that require catering during this period.
The company said some cooked food will be sourced from vendors’ external central kitchens, while efforts are underway to expand alternate cooking arrangements using electrical appliances and biofuel to maintain basic food services.
The LPG shortage has begun affecting multiple sections of society as commercial cylinder supply remains restricted. In several cities, small eateries and mess facilities that depend entirely on LPG for cooking have been forced to suspend operations.
Reports indicate that a number of mess owners in the Peth areas have shut down due to the unavailability of cylinders. These messes primarily cater to outstation students preparing for competitive examinations such as the Union Public Service Commission Civil Services Examination and the Maharashtra Public Service Commission Examination.
The disruption is part of a wider energy supply strain linked to the conflict in West Asia, which has affected LPG shipments and commercial supply chains across parts of India.
