Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation Sets Up Cooling Stations to Combat Heatwave Conditions

Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation has established dedicated cooling stations at Kalpana Square and Fire Station Square in Bhubaneswar to provide relief to residents amid rising temperatures and ongoing heatwave conditions.

The initiative aims to create accessible public comfort spaces where people can temporarily escape extreme heat and reduce the risk of heat-related illnesses. Officials said the cooling stations are especially intended to support vulnerable groups such as outdoor workers, daily wage labourers, street vendors, traffic personnel and commuters exposed to prolonged sunlight.

According to civic authorities, the facilities are part of the city’s broader heatwave preparedness and public health resilience strategy as temperatures continue to rise across several parts of Odisha.

The cooling stations are expected to help reduce heat stress while promoting awareness about hydration, rest and heat safety measures during peak summer conditions.
