Bhubaneswar: The Commerce and Transport Department Odisha is set to take over the management of bus stands from Urban Local Bodies across Odisha as part of the newly proposed ‘Atal Bus Stand’ Scheme.
The initiative aims to bring the construction, renovation, operation and maintenance of bus terminals under a unified state-level framework to improve efficiency and standardisation in public transport infrastructure.
Officials stated that the scheme is intended to modernise bus stand facilities across Odisha through coordinated planning and professional management practices.
Under the new framework, authorities expect to introduce standardised passenger amenities, improved sanitation systems, better traffic management, enhanced safety measures and more organised operational systems at bus terminals.
The move is also expected to strengthen passenger convenience by improving waiting areas, ticketing infrastructure, parking facilities and inter-city transport connectivity.
Officials believe centralised administration under the ‘Atal Bus Stand’ Scheme will help ensure uniform infrastructure quality and more effective maintenance of bus terminals across urban and semi-urban regions of the state.
