Bhubaneswar: India has dispatched the second tranche of humanitarian medical assistance to the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC), reinforcing its commitment to supporting public health efforts across Africa.
The latest shipment comprises a 43-tonne consignment of essential medical supplies, including protective gear, diagnostic and monitoring equipment, medicines, and nutritional supplements. The assistance is aimed at enhancing disease surveillance, preparedness, and response capabilities in countries facing the threat of Ebola outbreaks.
Announcing the development, S. Jaishankar said the consignment would strengthen public health preparedness and bolster Ebola response capacities across the African Union.
The medical aid forms part of India’s broader partnership with African nations in the healthcare sector. Earlier, Africa CDC had welcomed India’s emergency support package, which included diagnostics, therapeutics, and other critical medical supplies to assist Ebola response operations.
The initiative highlights India’s role as a reliable partner in global health cooperation and reflects its continued engagement with African countries in addressing public health emergencies. The assistance is expected to support frontline healthcare systems, improve disease detection capabilities, and enhance the capacity of African nations to respond effectively to Ebola and other infectious disease outbreaks.
India and Africa have steadily expanded cooperation in healthcare, pharmaceuticals, capacity building, and medical technology, with public health emerging as a key pillar of their strategic partnership.
