BMC to Install Air Purifiers at Key Locations to Tackle Bhubaneswar Pollution

Bhubaneswar: In a bid to address the rising air pollution levels in the state capital, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has decided to install air purifiers at key locations across the city to help keep the Air Quality Index (AQI) within permissible limits.

The initiative will be rolled out in a phased manner, with the first phase covering Jayadev Vihar and AG Square, two of Bhubaneswar’s busiest traffic intersections. Mayor Sulochana Das said the civic body has already held discussions with the Odisha State Pollution Control Board to ensure effective implementation of the project.

Alongside air purifiers, the BMC is adopting multiple pollution-control measures, including water sprinkling at mechanical road sweeping sites to suppress dust and particulate matter.

Officials said the pilot phase will be closely monitored, and depending on its effectiveness, the project will be expanded to other parts of the city in subsequent phases.

The move comes amid heightened concern over deteriorating air quality during the winter season, when pollution levels tend to spike sharply in urban areas.
