Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has signed an agreement with Nexband Renewables to establish a 150-tonne-per-day compressed biogas (CBG) plant aimed at producing automobile-grade bio-CNG from vegetable waste.
The proposed facility will be located in the Khuntabandha area of Begunia and will also generate solid and liquid organic fertilizers, providing an additional boost to sustainable agricultural practices in the region.
Under the agreement, BMC will ensure the daily collection and supply of around 50 tonnes of vegetable waste from city markets and bulk waste generators, with operations expected to commence from July 1.
Officials said the initiative is designed to significantly reduce the load on waste transit stations, enhance sanitation in marketplaces, and enable scientific processing of organic waste in compliance with environmental norms.
The project marks a key step towards strengthening Bhubaneswar’s waste management ecosystem while promoting clean energy and circular economy practices.
