Bhubaneswar: Our society has slowly gone to the position where a sexual harassment, candle march, justice, protest for rights, violence against women has become normal. Everyday the new portals, television channels and news papers are filled with such news. One after another, cases are proving that women are unsafe and helpless everywhere. Ever alternative day we come across such heinous crimes, injustice but it has become a norm read, watch and report the news then move on to the next story. There is no sensitivity, no demand for justice even amongst the common people.
In the present times, if a girl is raped, harassed, commits suicide, it does not affect the people as well as to society anymore. People consume the news as f it is an everyday normal affaire. The primetime news channels do not discuss these matters anymore. There are hardly any debates and discussions on such issues.
It is notwithstanding that there are cases against men which bother us as well. In recent time couple of such cases are reported like Raja Raghuvanshi murder case, Atul Subhas case, Sourabh Rajput case, Niraj Gupta , Pradip Sharma, Dinesh Yadav, Sunil Kumar etc to mention a few. These are the men who were either killed by their wives or committed suicide due to family disputes. These cases were on every primetime stories, social media trends and tv debates. It is true that these were very unfortunate incidents and no innocent should be harassed, tortured or forced to death irrespective of their gender. Crime is a crime and the one who commits is a criminal not identifies as per its gender or anything else. But when it comes to reporting the facts and creating a biased narrative like all other spheres, in crimes against men also men get more preference, attention and biased judgements against women.
Recently, the narrative was built as if only men are getting harassed, killed, tortured and suppressed by the women in society. Social media memes were circulated against women, wives and marriage. Although it is an age old phenomenon that the crimes and violence against women are far higher than the men. Most of the cases are not even reported. Those which are reported are ignored as well. But still the male supremacy mindset again takes a lion’s share, here also.
The millions of gender violence cases are brushed under the carpet whereas a few reported cases against men are taking on the cruelty of women in society. As it is not fair to make these crimes a gender war but when the system is making so, it becomes pertinent to voice it.
