Cuttack IIC Arrested by Odisha Vigilance for Accepting Bribe; ₹5 Lakh Recovered

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance on Monday apprehended Sri Bijay Kumar Barik, Inspector-in-Charge (IIC) of CRRI Police Station, Cuttack, while allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹40,000 from a licensed liquor vendor.

According to vigilance sources, the bribe was demanded and accepted to allow the liquor business to operate smoothly without interference. The IIC was caught red-handed during a trap operation conducted by the vigilance team.

Following the arrest, simultaneous searches were carried out at locations linked to the accused officer, during which ₹5 lakh in cash was recovered.

In connection with the case, Cell Division Police Station Case No. 1/2026 has been registered under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018. Further investigation is currently underway to ascertain the source of the recovered cash and to examine the extent of alleged corrupt practices.

Odisha Vigilance officials stated that strict legal action will be taken as per law, reiterating the agency’s zero-tolerance policy towards corruption in public service.
