Bhubaneswar: With dengue cases gradually rising in the capital city, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has intensified its source-reduction and vector-control measures, focusing on five identified hotspots where infections have already reached double digits. Among these, Chandrasekharpur and Patia have emerged as the most affected localities.
BMC officials have deployed additional teams for door-to-door inspections, larvicide spraying, and removal of stagnant water — the primary breeding ground for Aedes aegypti mosquitoes. Public awareness campaigns have also been scaled up in high-risk zones to urge residents to eliminate waterlogging in and around their homes.
“Chandrasekharpur and Patia are currently the city’s dengue hotspots. We are conducting intensive source reduction and monitoring activities to curb further spread,” a senior BMC official said.
Health workers have been instructed to ensure daily surveillance, especially in residential clusters, construction sites, and commercial pockets where vector breeding tends to be higher. The civic body has also appealed to citizens to maintain cleanliness and avoid storing water in open containers.
The intensified efforts come as Bhubaneswar witnesses a steady climb in seasonal vector-borne diseases, reinforcing the need for collective precautionary measures across the city.
