Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a fog alert for several states across North, East and Northeast India, warning of dense to very dense fog at isolated places till the morning of December 26.
According to the advisory, very dense fog is likely over Assam and Meghalaya, Bihar, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi, Punjab, and Uttar Pradesh, potentially impacting visibility and disrupting road, rail and air travel.
Meanwhile, dense fog conditions may prevail over parts of Arunachal Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, East Madhya Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, the Jammu region, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura, Odisha, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, and Uttarakhand.
The weather office has advised commuters to exercise caution, especially during early morning hours, as low visibility may lead to traffic slowdowns and delays in train and flight services. Motorists have been urged to use fog lights and avoid high-speed driving.
The IMD noted that prevailing cold wave conditions, high moisture levels and calm winds are contributing to the formation of dense fog across the affected regions. Further updates will be issued based on evolving weather patterns.
