G20 Nations Push Forward Without Trump, Sign Johannesburg Declaration; India–Brazil–South Africa Axis Strengthens

Bhubaneswar: In a dramatic geopolitical development, the G20 nations have formally adopted the Johannesburg Declaration, choosing to move ahead without former U.S. President Donald Trump, who skipped the summit and attempted to influence proceedings from outside.

The summit, held in South Africa, saw no impact from Trump’s pressure tactics, marking a major setback for the former U.S. leader who is known for seeking personal credit in global deals and declarations.

Despite a strong objection from the U.S. side—calling the declaration “shameful”—South Africa stood firm, and the G20 achieved full consensus.

In a second major development, India, Brazil, and South Africa revived the IBSA forum, forming a powerful emerging-market coalition on the sidelines of the summit. Analysts say Trump’s aggressive trade posture pushed these democratic powers closer together. The absence of China’s president further helped streamline cooperation among the three nations.

The G20’s message is clear: the world wants dialogue, not dictatorship; consensus, not coercion.

This is a major diplomatic blow to Trump, whose attempts to steer the summit from afar failed to gain traction. With the Global South agenda gaining momentum and India playing a lead role, the G20 has signaled a new era of multilateral decision-making.
