Bhubaneswar: The Government of India has absorbed a substantial portion of the recent rise in LPG costs to protect consumers from a sharper price increase, according to a senior official.
Speaking on LPG pricing, Sujata Sharma said the current price of a domestic LPG cylinder in New Delhi stands at ₹913, even after a ₹60 increase. She noted that without government intervention, the market-linked price of LPG would have been significantly higher.
The government has also continued targeted support for beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana. Under the scheme, PMUY households are currently paying ₹613 per cylinder.
According to Sharma, the recent ₹60 hike translates to less than ₹0.80 per day for a PMUY household, indicating that the government has absorbed the bulk of the cost burden to keep cooking fuel affordable for low-income families.
Officials said the pricing support is part of broader efforts to stabilise domestic energy costs while global fuel markets remain volatile.
