Hotels in Puri Warn LPG Stocks May Run Out, Seek Urgent Government Intervention

Bhubaneswar: Hotels and restaurants across Odisha have raised alarm over a growing shortage of commercial LPG cylinders, warning that kitchens could soon face operational disruptions if supplies are not restored quickly.

The Hotel and Restaurant Association of Odisha (HRAO) has urged Hardeep Singh Puri, Union Minister for Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, to intervene and ensure uninterrupted LPG supply to the hospitality sector.

HRAO Chairman J K Mohanty said most hotels and eateries rely entirely on commercial LPG cylinders for daily cooking operations. Recent supply disruptions have created serious operational challenges, affecting food preparation and service across several establishments.

Industry representatives cautioned that prolonged shortages could lead to cancellation of bookings, temporary shutdowns of kitchens, and inconvenience for tourists visiting the state.

Hoteliers in Puri, one of Odisha’s busiest tourist destinations, said their current LPG stocks may last only a few more days. With thousands of pilgrims and tourists visiting the city daily, the situation could significantly affect hospitality services if the supply chain is not stabilised soon.

The association has called for urgent government intervention to prevent disruptions to the tourism and hospitality sector, particularly in peak travel locations such as Puri.
