India Launches First Indigenous Runway Cleaning Vehicles, Boosting ‘Make in India’ Aviation Push

Bhubaneswar: India has taken a significant step towards aviation self-reliance with the launch of its first indigenously developed runway cleaning vehicles, reinforcing the Centre’s Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat initiatives. The advanced machines have been developed by Bengaluru-based Anlon Technology Solutions in collaboration with Switzerland’s Bucher Municipal, combining global expertise with domestic manufacturing.

The first set of these runway cleaning vehicles has been handed over to the Noida International Airport, marking their formal induction into India’s aviation infrastructure. Designed to enhance runway safety, the vehicles are capable of efficiently removing debris, dust, metal fragments, and rubber deposits left behind by aircraft tyres—without the use of chemicals.

Officials said the deployment of these machines will significantly reduce the risk of foreign object damage (FOD) to aircraft, improve operational safety, and lower dependence on imported equipment. The technology is aligned with international standards, ensuring high performance while supporting India’s growing airport network.

The initiative is being seen as a proud milestone for India’s manufacturing and aviation ecosystem, highlighting the country’s ability to develop high-tech, safety-critical equipment domestically. With rapid expansion underway in airports and air traffic, such indigenous solutions are expected to play a key role in making India future-ready in global aviation.
