Bhubaneswar: Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Tuesday said that India’s visionary leadership and progressive policymaking have laid a strong foundation for innovation, positioning the country as a global leader in technology and artificial intelligence (AI).
Speaking at a technology and innovation summit in the national capital, Sitharaman emphasized that India’s approach to emerging technologies is inclusive, ethical, and growth-oriented, ensuring that the benefits of AI reach all sections of society.
“India’s leadership in digital innovation is not accidental — it is the result of foresight, planning, and the vision of making technology accessible to every citizen,” Sitharaman said.
The Finance Minister highlighted the government’s initiatives such as the IndiaAI Mission, Digital India, and the establishment of AI Centres of Excellence, which aim to boost domestic innovation and attract global investment.
She also noted that India’s digital public infrastructure, including Aadhaar, UPI, and DigiLocker, has created a robust ecosystem for integrating AI into governance, financial inclusion, and service delivery.
“Artificial intelligence is shaping the future, and India intends to lead that future with responsibility, ethics, and inclusivity,” she added.
Industry experts have hailed India’s AI-driven transformation as a major step toward technological self-reliance, saying that the country’s talent pool, policy support, and startup ecosystem are key enablers of its growing global influence in the AI domain.
