Bhubaneswar, INDIA: Iran has opened its land borders for Indian nationals seeking to leave the country following rising regional tensions after U.S. and Israeli strikes that began on February 28 and forced the shutdown of regional airspace.
According to reports, Indian citizens are being allowed to exit through neighbouring countries such as Turkey, Armenia, and Afghanistan.
Many of those affected are medical students from Jammu and Kashmir, who had been studying in Iran. The Embassy of India in Tehran has begun relocating students and other nationals to safer locations while coordinating evacuation efforts.
The Ministry of External Affairs has also issued helplines and advised Indians in the region to leave through available land routes as quickly as possible.
While some observers have praised India’s diplomatic coordination with Tehran, reports indicate that similar land exit arrangements are available to other foreign nationals as well, suggesting the move is part of broader humanitarian facilitation.
Meanwhile, security concerns persist in the wider region. Shipping activity near the Strait of Hormuz has been affected, with several vessels reportedly delayed as tensions continue to disrupt normal maritime and air routes.
