Bhubaneswar: Mumbai Police on Friday night arrested actor and film critic Kamaal Rashid Khan in connection with an incident in which shots were fired outside a residential building in Lokhandwala earlier this month. The firing incident occurred on January 18 at Nalanda Society, prompting an investigation after residents reported bullet marks on the building.
According to police officials, Khan admitted during questioning that he had fired two rounds from his licensed revolver while cleaning the weapon. He reportedly stated that he aimed towards a nearby forested area, but the bullets instead struck flats within the residential complex. No injuries were reported in the incident.
Police traced the source of the firing through CCTV footage from the area and subsequently seized the revolver. Khan was produced before a court in Bandra, which granted police custody for three days until January 27 to allow further investigation. The case has been registered under relevant provisions of the Arms Act.
Officials said the investigation will focus on verifying the circumstances under which the firearm was discharged and whether there was any negligence involved. The incident has renewed concerns about firearm safety and misuse in densely populated urban areas.
Khan, 50, is a controversial public figure known for frequent disputes and outspoken criticism within the film industry. Police stated that further action would be taken based on the outcome of the ongoing inquiry.
