Bhubaneswar: Veteran playback singer Kumar Sanu has sent a legal notice to his ex-wife Rita Bhattacharya after she made serious allegations in a recent interview, claiming that she was denied food, medical care, and basic support during her third pregnancy.
In her statements, Rita accused the singer of emotional and financial neglect, alleging that she endured hardship while raising their children. Her comments quickly gained attention online, sparking debates about the couple’s long-standing personal dispute.
Through his lawyer, Kumar Sanu dismissed the accusations as “false, defamatory, and malicious”, asserting that they were intended to tarnish his public image. The legal notice reportedly demands an unconditional apology and a public retraction of the statements.
“These baseless allegations are defamatory and an attempt to malign my client’s reputation. Appropriate legal action will follow if the statements are not withdrawn,” Sanu’s lawyer said in an official statement.
The singer, known for his chart-topping hits in the 1990s, has largely stayed away from public controversy in recent years. However, this development has once again brought his personal life into the spotlight.
Neither Rita Bhattacharya nor her representatives have issued a response to the legal notice so far.
