Bhubaneswar: A shortage of commercial LPG cylinders in Bhubaneswar has forced residents, caterers and restaurant owners to increasingly rely on firewood for cooking, triggering a sharp rise in prices.
Traders say the price of Chira wood, commonly used as cooking fuel, has surged to ₹1,700 per quintal as demand has spiked in recent days.
With LPG supplies constrained, many households and food businesses have turned to firewood as an alternative fuel source. The sudden demand has strained supply chains, leading to long queues at firewood godowns across the city.
Suppliers warn that prices could climb further if the fuel shortage continues, as both domestic users and commercial establishments compete for limited stocks.
The situation has begun to disrupt daily routines and business operations, particularly for small eateries and catering services that depend heavily on consistent fuel supply for cooking.
