Bhubaneswar: Hotels and restaurants across Bengaluru are set to shut operations after the Bangalore Hotels Association announced that the supply of commercial LPG cylinders to the sector has been halted, triggering a major crisis for the city’s food service industry.
In a statement issued on March 9, the association said the disruption would significantly affect people who depend on hotels for daily meals, including office-goers, students, senior citizens, and medical professionals.
According to the association, oil companies had earlier assured that there would be no interruption in LPG supply for at least 70 days. However, the sudden stoppage of commercial gas cylinder deliveries has come as a severe setback for hotel operators in the Karnataka capital.
Hoteliers have appealed to the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas and other concerned Union ministers to intervene immediately and restore supplies. They warned that the situation could worsen if the issue is not resolved quickly.
Due to the shortage, several hotels and eateries across the city have decided to remain closed from March 10, stating that kitchens cannot operate without a steady supply of LPG.
The disruption comes amid wider turbulence in global energy markets linked to the escalating tensions in West Asia following military strikes involving the United States, Israel and Iran, which have strained fuel supply chains worldwide.
