Mahapatra Reviews Bhubaneswar’s TP Schemes, Inspects Proposed New City Site

Bhubaneswar: Housing and Urban Development Minister and Chairman of the Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA), Dr. Krushna Chandra Mahapatra, on Wednesday conducted an extensive field review of several major urban development initiatives underway in the capital. The minister visited Town Planning (TP) Schemes No. 1, 2 and 3 located in Bijipur, Paikarapur and Sahajpur, followed by an inspection of the proposed site for the upcoming New City project.

The visit reflects the state government’s renewed emphasis on accelerating planned urban expansion and widening the growth footprint of Bhubaneswar, particularly in the peripheral zones.

During his on-site assessment, Mahapatra reviewed the progress of the TP schemes—projects aimed at creating well-planned residential, commercial and institutional zones equipped with modern infrastructure. Officials from the BDA briefed him on land readjustment processes, road network layouts, public utility corridors and the proposed timelines for completion.

Reiterating the government’s long-term vision for Greater Bhubaneswar, the minister said the expansion of TP schemes across the city’s outskirts would ensure balanced and regulated development. “Our goal is to promote orderly urban growth with world-class amenities so that Bhubaneswar evolves sustainably while meeting the needs of its expanding population,” he said.

Mahapatra also inspected the location earmarked for the ambitious New City project, envisioned as a futuristic urban hub designed to decongest the core city and accommodate future economic, residential and infrastructural requirements. Senior officials highlighted the planned integration of transit-oriented development, green spaces and mixed-use infrastructure within the proposed city layout.

The Housing and Urban Development Department is expected to fast-track clearances, land planning processes and inter-agency coordination to ensure timely implementation of both the TP schemes and the New City project.

With Bhubaneswar experiencing rapid expansion, the government views these initiatives as critical to shaping the next phase of the capital’s growth story.
