New OMFED Milk Packets Brought Chaos amongst Opposition and Milk Farmers

Bhubaneswar: There has been a protest against the state government with regards to the new milk packet introduced by the state owned Odisha State Cooperative Milk Producers Federation ( OMFED).

It is claimed that the price of the new milk packet is cost higher than the older packets and the quantity of the milk is also less. Where the price is higher by two rupees per packet, the quantity of me milk it contains is 450 ml instead of 500 ml. Another very distinct difference the new milk packet carries is the colour of the packet. It seems that the packet symbolises with the colour of the current ruling party which is saffron. The milk packet is saffron in colour varied from the previous one.

The two opposition parties in the state, both BJD and the Congress have attacked BJP over this matter. Prominent BJD leader Gautam Buddha Das and Congress leader Sofia Firdous have criticised the government on changing the colour of LAccMI buses, school buildings, changed the names of many welfare schemes and now the colour of the milk packets.

The Odisha Milk Farmers Association ( OMFA) has also criticized BJP on this issue. Chairman of OMFA , Rabi Behera asked the government whether this move would work favorably for the milk farmers. He further says the government should provide cattle feeds to the farmers in a subsidized price. The procurement price of the milk should be 40 rupees per liter, as per the demand of the farmers.

The OMFED authority has issued its statement saying the new saffron colour milk packet is made with additional ingredients and it adds more nutritional value for the consumers. So the price hike is justified but the two old varients such as blue and pink are still available in the market by their old prices. OMFED has already conveyed through its official social media handle that the new packet was on a market trial process. It would be launched soon.
