Odisha Assembly Sesson Adjourned as BJP & BJD Sparred Over Mission Shakti Worker’s Protest

Bhubaneswar: The protest of the Mission Shakti staff over the salary delay has created an intense exchange of words on the Odisha State Assembly on 10 December. The ruling party, BJP and the opposition, BJD sparred over the current matter related to the Mission Shakti salary row.
The session was adjourned by the speaker, Surama Padhy till 11.30 a.m. amid the chaos amongst the party members. Later the session resumed.

There has been a protest organized by the All Odisha GPLF Mission Shakti Workers Union. In this protest the major demand they make is a 10-point list of demand, the main highlight  being the nine months pending salary to be released and the regularisation of jobs.

Hundreds of women Mission Shakti workers have staged a sit-in demonstration at Lower PMG Road after a continuous failed discussions by the government. Many senior BJD leaders joined the protest on Tuesday at Lower PMG Square, demanding release of pending salaries and the fulfilment of their demands.

Leader of Opposition Mr Naveen Patnaik has stated on the issue that, it is the conspiracy of the BJP government against Mission Shakti workers as it is deliberately withholding the salaries of the women working under the initiative. There are more than 70 lakh women working as support staff under the Mission Shakti Scheme and it is highly condemnable. The BJD has always stood by the Mission Shakti movement and will continue to support it.
