Odisha Finalises 24 New NACs, Issues Draft Notification for 5 Municipalities

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has finalised the establishment of 24 new Notified Area Councils (NACs) across 14 districts and has also issued draft notifications for five new Municipalities, marking a significant step towards strengthening urban governance and planned urbanisation in the state.

Officials said the initiative is aimed at extending formal civic administration to rapidly growing semi-urban areas, ensuring better delivery of municipal services and improved governance mechanisms.

The creation of new urban local bodies is expected to facilitate structured infrastructure development, enhance access to state and central government schemes, and improve basic civic amenities such as roads, sanitation, water supply, and street lighting in the designated regions.

The draft notifications for the proposed municipalities have been issued to invite public objections and suggestions, following which the government will take a final decision in accordance with statutory provisions.

Authorities said the move aligns with Odisha’s long-term urban development strategy and reflects the state’s focus on balanced regional growth.
