Odisha Imposes Night-Time Construction Ban in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack to Curb Pollution

Bhubaneswar: In response to worsening air quality, the Odisha government has imposed a temporary ban on construction activities in the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack during night and early morning hours.

The restriction, effective from 6 pm to 10 am, applies to both government and private construction projects. Authorities have also directed builders to cover construction materials and carry out regular water sprinkling at sites to prevent dust pollution.

The move follows a sharp deterioration in air quality, with the cities’ Air Quality Index (AQI) entering the ‘very poor’ category. Officials said the measures are part of a broader action plan to reduce particulate matter and protect public health.

Violators of the order will face strict action, including suspension of approved building plans, as enforcement agencies intensify monitoring across the twin cities.
