Odisha Issues Heatwave Advisory for Schools Ahead of Summer

Bhubaneswar: With summer approaching, the Odisha School and Mass Education Department has issued a statewide advisory directing schools to implement precautionary measures to tackle potential heatwave conditions.

The advisory outlines several key steps to safeguard students from heat-related illnesses. Schools have been instructed to ensure uninterrupted access to safe drinking water, repair non-functional tube wells, and maintain adequate stock of Oral Rehydration Solution (ORS) packets. Institutions have also been advised to limit outdoor activities during peak heat hours and encourage students to carry water bottles.

In addition, schools must allocate time during regular hours to create awareness among students about heatwave safety, early symptoms of heat stress, and preventive practices.

The directive has been circulated to the Office of the Special Relief Commissioner, district Collectors, and Block Education Officers (BEOs) to ensure coordinated and effective implementation at the ground level.

Officials said the proactive measures aim to minimise heat-related health risks and ensure a safe learning environment during the summer months.
