Odisha Mandates 24×7 Fire Safety Systems Across Buildings

Bhubaneswar: In a major step to strengthen public safety, the Government of Odisha has made it mandatory for all institutions and buildings to keep fire safety alert systems operational round-the-clock.

The directive aims to ensure immediate emergency response and prevent fire-related disasters, particularly in critical establishments such as hospitals, offices and public facilities.

Focus on Continuous Monitoring

Officials said the move comes amid rising concerns over safety lapses, where inactive or malfunctioning alarm systems have posed serious risks. Authorities have emphasised that continuous monitoring and maintenance of fire safety equipment is essential to safeguard lives and property.

Regular Inspections and Preparedness

As part of the guidelines, departments and institutions have been instructed to:

  • Conduct regular fire safety inspections

  • Ensure all fire-fighting equipment is functional

  • Organise mock drills to improve emergency preparedness

Strict Compliance Enforced

The government has warned that negligence in fire safety norms will not be tolerated, with strict compliance expected across all sectors. Authorities will monitor adherence at various levels to ensure implementation.

Safer Public Infrastructure

The initiative is aimed at building a safer and more resilient environment, ensuring quicker response times during emergencies and reducing the risk of large-scale damage due to fire incidents.

Officials said the move reinforces the state’s commitment to public safety through proactive measures and constant vigilance.
