Odisha to Launch HPV Vaccination Drive Under Nationwide Campaign

Bhubaneswar: Odisha will roll out the nationwide Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination campaign on February 28, joining a major public health initiative aimed at preventing cervical cancer among adolescent girls.

The programme, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, seeks to expand immunisation coverage and reduce the long-term burden of cervical cancer, one of the most common cancers affecting women in India.

Under the campaign guidelines, a single vaccine dose will be administered to girls up to 14 years of age, while those aged 14 and above will receive three doses as per medical protocol.

The initiative is supported by a ₹311 crore allocation for cancer treatment and prevention measures. Nationwide, the campaign aims to cover approximately 1.15 crore girls annually, strengthening early intervention efforts and reinforcing the government’s commitment to women’s health and preventive care.

Health officials said the drive will be implemented through schools and public health centres, with awareness campaigns planned to ensure maximum participation and informed consent.
