Bhubaneswar: Pakistan Defence Minister Khwaja Asif has alleged that the ongoing clashes between Pakistani forces and Taliban fighters along the Afghanistan border are part of what he described as “India’s proxy war” against Pakistan.
Speaking to the media on Monday, Asif claimed that India is supporting and sponsoring elements of the Taliban to destabilize Pakistan and create unrest along the western frontier. “The Taliban is being sponsored by Delhi. India could play dirty at the border to weaken Pakistan’s stability,” the minister said.
The statement comes amid heightened tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan, following repeated border skirmishes and an increase in militant attacks inside Pakistan’s border regions. Islamabad has accused Kabul of failing to curb the activities of the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), which Pakistan claims operates from Afghan soil.
Asif warned that the government would take all necessary measures to defend national security and respond to any attempts to undermine its sovereignty. “Pakistan will not tolerate any external interference or proxy warfare,” he added.
Meanwhile, Afghanistan’s Taliban-led administration has denied Pakistan’s accusations, insisting that it does not allow its territory to be used against any neighboring country.
The rising border tensions have strained already fragile relations between Islamabad and Kabul, with both sides trading blame for recent violence and cross-border shelling.
