Bhubaneswar: An escalating internal tussle among senior BJP leaders Dharmendra Pradhan, Mohan Majhi, and Manmohan Samal is beginning to take a toll on the party’s functioning in Odisha, with repercussions now being felt at the grassroots level.
Sources within the party suggest that the power struggle, which has been simmering beneath the surface, is now becoming more pronounced following the recent shift in political equations after the 2024 general elections. The growing rift is reportedly affecting coordination among party units, with confusion and factionalism becoming increasingly visible across several districts.
While the top leadership remains tight-lipped, party workers on the ground have started expressing concern. “There is a sense of uncertainty. Workers are caught in the crossfire of high-level ego clashes,” said a district-level BJP functionary on the condition of anonymity.
The leadership battle, insiders claim, is centered around control over party machinery and influence in key policy decisions. Mohan Majhi, the newly appointed Chief Minister, is seen as a rising force, but his growing stature appears to be unsettling to other power centers within the state BJP.
The common people, too, are not untouched by the developments. With internal conflicts spilling over into public administration, local governance in some areas has reportedly slowed down, leaving citizens frustrated.
Political analysts warn that if not addressed swiftly, the internal discord could weaken the BJP’s organizational strength in Odisha and impact its performance in upcoming local body elections. “Unity is crucial, especially in a politically evolving state like Odisha. A divided house never wins the trust of the people,” noted political observer Dr. S. Mishra.
As the BJP leadership in Delhi monitors the situation closely, all eyes are now on how the party will resolve the growing factionalism and restore internal discipline before it causes long-term damage.
