Bhubaneswar: The Editor of the premier Odia Daily (The Sambad) and the owner of the Eastern Media Ltd. Mr. Soumya Ranjan Patnaik joined Biju Janata Dal (BJD) this morning. Mr. Soumya Ranjan Patnaik is a political Leader, former parliamentarian and teh Chief of Ama Odisha Party.
After reaching at Naveen Niwas (Residence of Odisha CM and BJD Party Chief Shri Naveen Patnaik), with his close political aids officially announced his new start with the ruling party at 11.15 am.
Mr. Soumya Ranjan is an ambitious politician and son-in-law of former chief minister and former Assam Governor Janaki Ballav Patnaik, started his political career with Congress in the last decade of 20th century. Later he joined Bharatiya Janata Party. Again he made a comeback to the Congress, drawn by the prospect of a ticket for the Bhubaneswar Lok Sabha seat in 1996. He went on to win that seat. In 1998 he contested again but lost to the Biju Janata Dal candidate. Assuming the political future uncertainty, he joined NCP. In early 21st century, after BJP strengthened its curve, it was discussion that Mr. Soumya Ranjan may join BJP, but he proved it as a rumour.
After he was expelled from Congress in 2014 for alleged anti-party campaign he floated a new political party Aama Odisha Party (AOP). But he failed to win Khandapada assembly constituency for the second time.
As he joined BJD, it may be expected that his Party may merge with BJD soon.
Mr. Soumya Ranjan Patnaik used to be a strong critic of BJD for more than a decade.
