Bhubaneswar: Television industry is deteriorating with time in terms of basic amenities provided to the actors, technicians, crue members etc. Basic amenities are like clean wash rooms, health food in the sets, proper drinking water, hygienic environment provided on the set for the people who work at least 12-15 hours or sometimes more than that. The producers and makers should look into the matter and take interventions in this direction. These could be factored by cost cutting, saving money and so on but the real case is when the people who put their best of efforts, toiling our day and night are not provided with some basic requirements, so eventually it will affect the product, the show and the result is visible no a days.
The shelf life of most of the television shows currently is very less as compared to the previous times. There was a time when shows like ‘Kyun ki’, ‘Kahani ghar ghar ki’ and many more classic shows, relatable and everlasting characters were made. Those characters as well as the shows still are fresh in the mind of the audiences. Because the actors then were treated as artists, given liberty to showcase their craft, get in the nerve of the character and perform. Nowadays the actors are put under so much pressure with stipulated time frames as if they are appearing in an exam constantly. They have to prove themselves within that time limit otherwise the show is shut overnight. It is really unfortunate for the television actors.
More so, during the time of COVID the television industry was so badly affected that it got a complete transformation by many aspects. Everything became about the number games, and TRP rates. The art of storytelling, developing a character, and so to say the whole system got over turn. The unoteducatsbility of time and situation made everything and everybody run in a race. If the TRP is not garnered as per the set parameters then scrap the show even though it is a great story, with good artistic quality.
This is pathetic mindset the television is heading towards by not promoting the quality rather only focus on numbers. Due to this structure the actors, the medium and the product, every side is getting down sized. The actors lack the scope to perform, as a result the quality of the show gets degraded, then eventually the medium is framed within a stereotypical box.
