The Future of the Children Floats in Drugs

Bhubaneswar: The people who are under addiction control their behaviour and actions. They get into addiction whenever there is a crisis one situation in their life as losing libs, friendship, relationship, family members etc. These addictions are also getting higher in all age groups , old, young, and adolescents. It is extremely challenging for the society. There are many different types of addictive substance like alcohol, opium, cannabis, gutkha, cigarette, brown sugar and so on. This phenomenon is not just a problem limited to the natives but has spread world wide. The use and addiction of intoxicated substances considered as a disease that can affect the mind and  actions of a person. Imagine if such a disease takes over the whole society in general and families in particular. It is the primary stage of  ruining the society, humanity, culture, social confinement, and life. Addiction or medicines can deter the neural pathways of a child when it comes in contact with the person during the period of brain development. As a result, long term cognitive deficit, difficulty in learning and behavioral issues get to be seen in children. Drug abuse by any of the family members can lead to the children of the same family being at risk of adopting the same behaviour. The children learn such habits from society, family, relatives , neighbors and friends. These habits affects the body, mind, and development negatively. It is better to be addicted to the works that helps to develop our individual and corporal development as it supports in forming and guiding us for our future. But if the child get exposed to drugs , it affects both his present and the future.

I our and our ancestors childhood, the use of mobile phones, television and internet was not there and also the availability of Gutkha, Brown sugar, alcohol was less. People were not aware about so many varieties of drugs as well as not very much addicted to drugs. Most people were limited to pan, pan masala, and cannabis as they were not that economically capable to afford any other drugs, substance . There were not much possibilities for selling, buying and consuming of drugs either in villages or in the cities. Moreover, the children were playing outdoors and remained physically fit. They had no such synonymous groups that would have been using drugs. Any kind of behavioral and disciplinary and aggressive issues in children could be resolved easily then. But now the children are becoming addicted to technology, science, education, AI. There have been many examples in the present scenario about the young children getting into road mishaps, crimes, misconducts by engrossed in intoxication.

Between the span of 2011-21, about 321,000 children had lost their parents for over consumption of drugs in the United States of America. In the international sphere, most of the juvenile and adolescent children have reportedly been addicted to drugs and substances. The children are in high vulnerable state due to the availability of drugs, misbehaviour towards the adolescents, mental health issues amongst the drug addicts.

Cigarettes and the other kinds of tabacco productions ( prohibition of advertisement, trade, production, supply chain management) Act 2003 is getting implemented in our country. It is mentioned in the article 6 that any person is not allowed to sell or propose drugs to anyone under the age of 18. Drugs are not permitted to be sold within the 100 yards diameters of any educational institutions. Lately, the National Child Rights Protection Commission has passed a joint action policy to curb the drug abuse and illegal activities. There is a provision to create a watch club to stop agitation around the premises of schools and colleges, keeping a watch on the activities and report to the authorities, and create sensibilities among the students. There has been a prohibition on the sell of X, H medicines. The parents and children should be aware about this medicines that are prohibited from using. According to Mahatma Gandhi, ‘ A snake only destroys the body, but the curse of alcohol destroys the soul “.

Increase in drug abuse is threatening for life, society and the country. It is a worrying situation. Government has operated many programs like Tobacco free India campaign, Indian Tobacco Control campaign etc to control the use of drugs in the country. Everybody should participate, support and take advantage of these campaigns. There should be a de- addiction center for the shelter of the children who are drug addicts. Every child is precious and every life is important. Life builds the nation and drug addictions destroys the future of the nation. It is everybody’s responsibility to protect the children by keeping them away from drugs. This step will help to create a happy and healthy life. There has to be a healthy nation and healthy world where everyone would lead a happy life.
