Water born Diarrhea is Spreading in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: Diarrhea is spreading all over Odisha. Different districts including Jajpur. A team from center has arrived to supervise the situation and reported that this has been aggravating due to impure water consumption. This was initially started from the Jajpur district and later spread to other parts of
the state, particularly the coastal regions taking the form of Cholera. Death toll is rising day by day.

Political mud slinging has started by saying this the shortcomings of the previous government in the state where there was a rampant corruption in providing free drinking water facilities. It is seen that the administration in Jajpur is working continuously by using private vehicles for transporting the patients to hospitals. District Magistrate, Anwesha Reddy is inspecting the situation and taking required measures for curbing diarrhea in the district. Both private and public tube wells, wells piped water system and other sources of drinking water are getting purified. The DM has instructed to test the purity of the water with H2S kit.

Tank water supply is being provided wherever positive case are detected after chlorination. Other than that, ORS, Halogen tablets are distributed to every household by the Anganwadi, ASHA and ANM workers. Public awareness announcements are done repeatedly to be careful and safe from getting affected by diarrhea. DM herself is giving various advices to create awareness to the people through social media and other means. All the street food and, fast-food stalls have been shut down. People are instructed to wash their hands properly before their their meals at home and the food has to be freshly cooked, hot and home cooked. Drinking water should be boiled and one halogen tablet has to be mixed with it before consuming. Open defecation is strictly prohibited and after using toilet one should wash hands with soap. Water from river, ponds are asked not to consume or use. Officials are deployed to supervise the food and ration supply, drinking water supply and purification of water processes in different parts of the Jajpur district.
