Puri Gajapati Maharaja Appeals ISKCON to Stop Untimely Rath Yatra

Bhubaneswar: Gajapati Maharaja of Puri has showed his reaction on the prolonged tow over the untimely perform of Rath Yatra by the ISKON in the Houston city in the US on November 9. The titular king of Puri, Gajapati Maharaja has once again requested on 5 November the organisation to refrain from celebrating the Rath Yatra or any other festivals relating to the Lord Jagannath and the Culture in violation of the Shastric injunctions.

During a media address on 5 November, Devendra Singh Deo said that the ISKCON, didn’t conduct the proposed Snana Yatra of the holy triad in Houston on November 3 considering the sentiments of the devotees. But unfortunately, organisation has not yet released any official announcement about the cancellation of conducting the Rath Yatra on November 9. Reportedly, the ISKCON has been doing all the arrangements to conduct the Rath Yatra in Houston on November 9.

Gajapati Maharaja has also stated that the ISKCON is also planning to organise Rath Yatra in Nigeria later this month other Houston. He further added, ” Hopefully there will be an official meeting soon regarding this matter as as we are in touch with the ISKON governing bodies constantly “.

The authority of ISKON is hopefully will accept the logical point of view on conducting Rath Yatra as per the Shatric injunctions and tradition and settle the matter affably as their organisation also believes in religion, ‘Shastra’ and the rituals. The GBC meeting is scheduled to be held in March this year. If they don’t accept, enough is enough,” he added.

The Gajapati Maharaja has also stressed upon the point as ISKCON is conducting Rath Yatra in a non traditional manner since 1969. Though these ritual of ISKCON is no longer been in practice in India but continuing to be done in the other countries. Indian government is in dialogues with the governing bodies of the ISKCON organisation from 2021 but the matter is not resolved. The king has sternly said that the patience of the Odia people has a limit, if they don’t agree to handle the matter as per the traditional sentiments, we can take legal route. It is the sentiments of the people of Odisha to protect the greatness of the Jagannath Culture.
