Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has introduced a new mechanism to ensure timely payment of court-ordered maintenance and alimony to wives and children.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has directed that maintenance amounts owed by State Government employees who fail to comply with court orders will now be deducted directly from their monthly salaries.
According to the Chief Minister’s Office, several cases were brought to the government’s attention during public grievance hearings, where women and children complained about non-payment of maintenance despite court orders.
Under the new guidelines, the Drawing and Disbursement Officer (DDO) will deduct the court-mandated amount while preparing the employee’s monthly salary bill. The deducted amount will then be transferred directly to the beneficiary’s bank account.
The government also plans to integrate the payment mechanism with the Human Resources Management System (HRMS) to improve monitoring, transparency and compliance.
The move is aimed at ensuring that beneficiaries do not face prolonged delays in receiving maintenance awarded by courts.
