Bhubaneswar: Union Minister for Jal Shakti C.R. Paatil said a long-pending interstate dispute over the sharing of Sone River water between Bihar and Jharkhand has been resolved through sustained dialogue, cooperation and technical coordination.
Speaking on the resolution, Paatil said the issue had remained pending since 2000, following the formation of Jharkhand. He credited the leadership and guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, saying the development demonstrated that even complicated interstate issues can be resolved when the parties work together through dialogue and mutual trust.
Paatil said the Ministry of Jal Shakti held continuous discussions with both states and coordinated at the technical level to arrive at an agreement.
Under the agreed water allocation, Bihar will receive 5.75 million acre-feet (MAF) of Sone River water, while Jharkhand will receive 2.00 MAF.
Calling the agreement a significant achievement, Paatil said the resolution was reached through negotiations at the table, highlighting the importance of dialogue, trust and cooperation in resolving interstate water disputes.
