Communal Clashes in Bhadrak led to Suspension of Internet for 48 Hours

Bhubaneswar: Government of Odisha has ordered a suspension of Internet services in Bhadrak district for the next 48 hours, till September 30.  This step has been taken by the government because of the violent communal clashes occurred in Bhadrak and Dhamnagar  due to Facebook postings. There has been orders from the government on prohibiting public gatherings as well.

The additional chief secretary of the state has said that the home department has issued an order of prohibition on the use and access of social media platforms like Facebook, WhatsApp, X, by halting the internet services for 48 hours in Bhadrak district.

In the official notice , it is mentioned that as the State Government has been observing various communal disturbances in Bhadrak and Dhamnagar areas resulting from different social media postings , and it has been a matter of concern that the internet has been misused to spread communal hatred and violence. So the social media platforms such as Facebook, WhatsApp and X and others, that have the potential to propagate communal tensions are being shut down for use by withdrawing internet access. This step has been taken in the intention to restore peace and amity in the district of Bhadrak.
